Are you stuck in a downward spiral of screen time battles and ADHD?

“I argue with my [ADHD] son every day. I can’t get him off his computer, his homework is always sloppy and when I remind him to do anything it always sounds like a nag. He’s a great kid but we’re in a rut, it’s depressing and I hate it.”

We struggled for years with our ADHD son’s screen time and general disorganisation. We really tried everything: marble jars, reminder lists, timers, any number of software solutions.

We went to multiple ADHD parenting workshops – we’ve even put on events ourselves – but we realised that we needed a tool to implement the knowledge that we had collected.

In the end, we decided to build our own solution – one that is perfectly tailored to ADHD kids. We hope that it’ll help your child unwrap the gifts of ADHD – while managing the challenges.

Habyts was designed for caring parents (like you) managing kids with ADHD

Habyts was designed with ADHD in mind

Many kids have trouble managing their own screen time. But ADHD can make it even harder for kids to avoid excessive gaming, social media and other digital distractions. As family life and relationships suffer – parents often feel trapped in a loop of nagging, threats and telling their kids off. We’ve been there – and it’s one of the reasons we created Habyts.

Stop Screen Time Battles Before They Start

Easily regulate screen time habits across all your kids’ devices, with automatic limits, sensible schedules and safe browsing – across all networks, and even offline!

End Homework Hassles and Chore Wars

Block distracting websites and apps during homework – Study Time. Give your kids reminders and incentives to do their chores! Let them earn their screen time privileges!

Hi, we’re Cindy and Andy Crossley, Co-founders of Habyts®

As we went through our ADHD parenting journey, excessive screen time was a particular challenge.

We were fortunate to meet and work with ADHD experts such as Dr Edward Hallowell M.D., Elaine Taylor-Klaus and Diane Dempster of ImpactADHD, and other ground-breaking professionals.

These experts have helped us to build on the positive and practical principles we designed into our breakthrough app – called Habyts®.

In fact, our focus on Neurodiversity and Special Educational Needs has expanded as two other members of our Management Team are parenting kids on the autistic spectrum.

We see Habyts as an opportunity to unwrap the gifts – and help manage the challenges – for many kids across the behavioural spectrum.

Why Screen Time Is an Issue with ADHD and how Habyts can help

ADHD turns typical screen time issues into BIG ISSUES. Screen time self-control depends on the brain’s executive function – and ADHD undermines executive function.

ADHD can make it hard to keep track of time. Kids can hyperfocus and spend many hours in front of screens.

Habyts Can

Easily enforce sensible Time Limits, Schedules & Rules… across Multiple Devices

Impulse Control

Kids with ADHD may be more likely to engage in risky online behaviour like watching inappropriate videos and sexting.

Habyts Can

Filter harmful websites & Protect Your Kids

Sleep

Winding down at bedtime can be challenging for kids with ADHD. Screen time can make it even more difficult.

Habyts Can

Easily enforce Bed Time Limits & Schedules

Inattention / Working Memory Issues

Habyts Can

Low Self-Esteem/ Need for Recognition

Kids with ADHD usually experience much more negative than positive feedback – resulting in a vicious cycle of internal shame & external blame.

Habyts Can

Let parents instantly reward points for progress – no matter how big or small which an be redeemed for both screen and non-screen rewards

Frustration & Emotional Outbursts

Daily frustration and a lack of impulse control can result in high emotion for kids with ADHD.

Habyts Can

Act as an objective Time Keeper & Enforcer Reducing Some of the Potential Emotional Conflict

Transitions

All the on-screen excitement makes it even more challenging to transition off screens when time is up.

Habyts Can

Automatically provide minute-by-minute countdowns and warnings to Ease the Transition off Screen Time

Self-Regulation

Kids with ADHD struggle to develop the good habits to carry into adulthood.

Habyts Can

Hassle-Free

I don't want their heads stuck in their devices all of the time and go to sites they should not...[I like] that the kids have the device access turned off without hassle…Because it gives the kids incentive to do what they are supposed to.

Easy To Set Up And Track

Habyts is easy to set up and track. I like that you can add your own tasks & rewards. I can also track his progress in case he forgets to complete a task. I added brush teeth, make bed, leave on time. It was easy to add rewards…game time w/dad (5pts), movie (10pts), and dinner out his choice (30pts).

Really Like the Points & Reward System

My daughter seems to be on her tablet 24/7 and so do I! We're both really savvy with technology! I really, really like the points and reward system. It worked really well for us! That's the only way my daughter uses her tablet.

Helps Keep The Fussing And Fighting Down

[The study time feature] is very easy to use and understand…It makes the app stand out from others…really enjoyed using Habyts. It helps keep the fussing and fighting down with my daughter.

Patty H

Disable Usage Right Away

My son will just play any game he likes until the battery dies on the tablet and then move on to computer...Habyts is so easy to use and can be handy with a child who will not put down a device when asked.

Chris L

Allows My Children To Be Independent

My son has ADHD so he can be distracted very easy...[Habyts] was easy to use and I like how the children can't play their tablets without the task being done. I also [like] how they can see what task needs to be done. This makes it to where they can be more dependent.

Kayla A

Study Time Increased And Social Media Decreased

I like knowing what my kids are doing on the computer without checking on them very often...I can monitor how long they do certain things on the computer. Study Time increased and social media decreased...I loved it!

Nicole D

Study Time

Study time is excellent and great to know you can block sites and only use a specific time to study for your kids...It has all I need plus more [and] what they need for security.

Camille S

Turn Off The Internet

My two kids are constant users of Android phones, and tablets...I chose for my kids about 35 min for study time. If they get all the work done in this time they are done....I like the ability to simply turn off the internet from the kids.

Mike E

Motivating

My kids were more interested in competing with each other with the Rewards feature… It was great having them doing something together and having fun.

Nicole D

The Perfect Solution

Habyts is the perfect solution...I love how it teaches my child how to manage time and use educational websites and still have time for fun. [For Rewards], I added do some baking together, read with me, have an ice cream, play my favorite board game…all valued at 5 Points.

Camille S

Imagine…

Questions you may have

With some helpful answers

How does a lack of screen time management put my child at risk?

Numerous professors, doctors, scientists and teachers agree that healthy screen limits are essential to making sure technology doesn’t damage your child’s mental or physical health, social skills or chances of academic success.

There is a wide body of academic research which shows that excessive screen time can cause:

  • physical health problems, including obesity, aches and pains and vision issues
  • mental health problems, including aggression and inability to focus
  • social isolation
  • academic underperformance, through sleep deprivation

"Several studies have documented that higher levels of screen time are associated with less sleep, more attention problems, and lower academic performance and involvement."

How does Habyts work?

Habyts manages your child’s devices through an app which you install on each device. Your parent dashboard then ‘talks’ to the app on each device. You can access your parent dashboard from any web browser.

When you register for Habyts, the first thing you do is set up your kids’ Schedule - their total screen time allowance each day and the earliest and latest time they can use it. You then install Habyts on every device your kids use, including those shared as a family.

Once set up, you and your kids can access Habyts via the Dashboards. Accessible on any device, there is one for you (Parent Dashboard) and one for each of your kids too (Child Dashboard). The Dashboards allows on-the-go access to Habyts, wherever you are, whenever you need it.

Habyts also allows you to set Tasks for your kids, and incentivise them with Points. With Points, your kids can unlock bonus screen time (up to a daily limit that you can set) or save Points towards Rewards. Habyts allows you easily to do all this, and more, from your Dashboard.

Finally, you can control which apps and websites your kids can access. You can block certain apps and websites altogether, and limit access to others during Study Time. And using Reports, you can see what your kids get up to, and how much screen time they use each day.

Which devices does Habyts work on?

You can access your Parent Dashboard from any device with a web browser.

Habyts can control your child’s Windows PC (including laptops), Android phone or tablet, and Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod. A version for Amazon Fire tablets is coming soon.

How is Habyts different from other internet or time management products?

Habyts works wherever your kids are, managing their screen time and protecting them from the worst of the web. Habyts adds up their time spent on different devices (even across phones and laptops) so they can’t just move from one device to another to avoid limits.

You can even remove distractions during Study time by limiting which sites and apps they can use!

But there is so much more to Habyts than just screen time controls. Tired of chore wars? Set your kids Tasks and incentivise them with Points! And use the Habyts Reward system to help teach your kids the good habits that they’ll need as they get older. You’ll be amazed by how positive rewards changes the atmosphere in your home!

Each child has a separate account, so you can set custom screen time rules, tasks and rewards, all of which can be accessed on the go via your Dashboard. These accounts still apply on shared devices, so family computers or tablets can also be managed, and you can see reports on who has been doing what!

Habyts doesn’t need another box in your home, works on all networks (wifi, 3G, 4G, Ethernet...) and manages screen time even when your kids are offline, so offline games or downloaded videos (which don’t need an internet connection) are still managed.

My kids are more technical than me and seem to get around every control system. Will they be able to hack Habyts?

We’ve had many, many ‘kid testers’ trying to break the system so we’re confident that your kids won’t be able to get around it. Just make sure you keep your parent password safe!

Is Habyts secure?

We take your data security very seriously. Your data is secured in the cloud, and we use https (secure http) for all web communications.

Your kids can't tamper with or uninstall Habyts without your knowledge and permission.

Do I need to know anything technical to use Habyts?

No, we’ve designed Habyts so that it’s easy to use even for complete technology beginners.

How can I be sure that Habyts will work for me?

We have worked with many families around the world to make Habyts easy to use in every situation, and we’re always available to help if you aren’t sure what to do (see below). Remember that you can try Habyts for free – you don’t need to give credit card details to trial Habyts, you can use every feature we’ve got, and there is no obligation to buy.

What happens when the free trial ends?

We hope you’ll like Habyts so much that you’ll want to subscribe to our service, so in the last few days of the trial we’ll give you the option to subscribe – we’ll send you email reminders with a link, or you can subscribe directly through your parent dashboard.

If you don’t want to subscribe, after the last day of the trial period, Habyts controls will simply stop working. You don’t need to uninstall the Habyts apps on your kids’ devices (though of course you can do so if you want).

How much does Habyts cost?

It depends on what you need – but not even close to the price of a smartphone, tablet or therapist.

Please see our pricing here: https://habyts.com/pricing

In fact, if you look at the Big Mac Index from The Economist, our prices are similar to 1-3 Big Macs a month.

Can I get help and/or speak to someone if I need to?

Yes, we’re available via email (contact@habyts.com) or +44 (0) 203 865 1884 (from USA or Canada: 011 44 203 865 1884). You can also contact us via our Contact page. Please get in touch if you have any questions or need assistance

A year from now, are you going to be struggling with the same screen time issues… or worse?

The bottom line is this…

If you use Habyts, you can stop spending all your time nagging, yelling and worrying about screen time. Habyts can do that work. And you can focus more on being the parent you want to be.

Think about it...

What do you want to do more of? Reminding your kids to get off the computer? Counting their hours on the phone? Worrying about what they’re doing online? Fighting with them to do homework?

Or spending real time with your kids at the park? Enjoying screen-free conversation at dinner? Seeing them experience a sense of achievement at school and a life beyond screens? Teaching them how to unwrap life’s gifts – and manage its challenges?

You want to be the best parent you can for your child. You want to enjoy the time with them when they’re young. And you want to help them be confident adults, ready to soar in the real world.

Well, if you're spending more than half your time nagging and chasing your kids over and over again to get off the screens...

...you’re left with little time to build the critical relationship you need with your child.

But you can change this balance DRASTICALLY with Habyts.
