Announcing Scheduled Study Time: Get homework habits made easy

We’ve got some great news here at Habyts Headquarters!

Study Time was such a popular feature with all our parents that the Habytars have been working away at bringing you a Scheduled Study Time feature. And we’re pleased to say it’s here!

What does that mean?

Now, in the Habyts Schedule bar, you can automatically set times when your kids’ Study Time has to start. The best part is, it couldn’t be easier to set up!

Go to the Schedule and Add a Study Time Schedule

You’ll then be redirected to a screen that looks like the below, where you can give your schedule a name (we’ve used Homework as a default).

From there, it’s all self-explanatory…

  1. Set which days you want homework to be completed
  2. Set a starting time
  3. Decide how long study time should last for or if Study Time should only finish once you’ve signed off your child’s homework
  4. Decide if you want to offer them points for completing their homework, which they can then use on Rewards or extra Play Time within Habyts
  5. Finally, save! You can then edit or delete your Study Time Schedule at any time.

Got a couple of questions on the new feature?

Here are a few of our top FAQs and answers.

“Scheduled Study Time looks great, but my child doesn’t have enough homework to need a schedule.”

If you don’t want to schedule in Study Time and would prefer to set up this time on a more ad hoc basis, you can still do that too. Just use the Study Time feature in Habyts as normal and your screen time rules for homework will stay in place.

But even if they don’t have enough homework, you might still wish to set up a scheduled study time. They can then use this time to complete other educational activities like reading and writing. This regular schedule will then get them in the habit of completing educational work and other activities before turning to screen time for fun.

“Will the websites my child uses during Study Time eat up their Play Time allowance?”

No. We’ve built Scheduled Study Time so the educational apps and websites your child uses during this time WILL NOT count towards their Play Time Allowance.

“What would you recommend for a Study Time Schedule, to begin with?”

If you’ve got no idea where to start, don’t worry. Here’s a brief template to get you started.

  1. Set homework days to Mon-Fri
  2. Set homework to start when they get home from school
  3. Give it a time frame that you think would suit your child (30 min is a good starting point)
  4. Offer 10 points for completing their homework.

Then you’re all set!
